Although I grew up watching Star Trek and Doctor Who and Star Wars, and ET and Close Encounters and Alien had a huge influence on my generation, I've never spent much time thinking about outer space (which is obvious from the drawing above), except that I wouldn't want to be stranded out there...
That scene in the Star Trek movie (can't remember which one) where Spock hurtles out into the vast universe gave me the creeps.

You're thinking of Spock's funeral from Star Trek II, clips of which, if I'm not too mistaken, were reused in Star Trek III.

THAT explains how he returned in the next movie! I was, of course, 12 when Star Trek II came out, so I'm not entirely sure I understood exactly what was going on. But it did make me cry.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a powerful storyline, one that sticks with someone who isn't even a compulsive fan of the genre for 30 years!
I wouldn't even be born for another couple years after Star Trek II came out...
