So this is day 2 of the 30 day drawing challenge. Today's assignment? Draw my favorite sport.
Anyone who knows me very well knows I have a pathological dislike for the majority of sports. Not exercise, not personal sports activities like tennis or golf or skiing, but the big money, big hype, overexposed sports that take up a third of the nightly news and a huge chunk of our nation's discretionary income. (What the heck is discretionary income, anyway? I must not have it.)

Anyway, I do like horse racing, but quickly realized my drawing skills are not sufficient to draw Churchill Downs and a pack of horses thundering down the stretch to the finish line. And, I only watch horse racing once a year, so that doesn't really qualify as a favorite thing, IMHO.

So I opted for a non-traditional sport.

THRIFT STORE SHOPPING!!!
A sport, by definition, is "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature" and/or "a particular form of this, especially in the out of doors."

Thrift store shopping demands tremendous skill and physical prowess in the form of sorting through heaps and piles and stacks and racks of clothing and shoes and purses and knickknacks. And while most thrift store shopping expeditions are of a training nature, competitiveness comes into play on bag sale days and yard sales (which also fulfill definition #2).

On bag sale day, you get a bag, and can stuff as many items into that bag as will fit, for one low price. Sometimes it's $1, sometimes it's $3 or $5. One high-falutin' store I stopped at recently offered a $10/bag sale. But their bags were smaller than a gallon Ziploc, not your usual brown paper grocery sack or plastic bag. Bag sale days, like yard sales, are very competitive, with shoppers vying for the most stuff for the least amount of money. It can get ugly.

Kind of like my picture. Do you have any idea how hard it is to draw a sack of clothes? Which way DO collars point? And that creepy looking pink thing on the left? It's supposed to be a glove.

  1. I actually considered drawing something similar, maybe a sale tag, something easy. If only Thrift shopping were an Olympic sport. lol

Would you mind linking your posts with the rest of us? One of the reasons we do these challenges is to get (and give) a little exposure. I just copy and pasted the whole list from Don's blog. :)

    1. Niki, I think couponing could be a sport!
Thanks for the heads-up on linking. I added everyone this morning. The last time I did something like these we had a "linky tools" widget to connect to, so I wondered how everyone got looped in for this one!
