Eighteen years ago today I brought forth my second child, my oldest son.

I'm still trying to figure out how the colicky, scrawny baby with eczema who used to get up at the crack of dawn when I was trying to pray and demand his "tenchy" (attention) has morphed into a full-grown man with a beard and a job.

Be aware, mommas: That little boy clinging to your leg will be a man with his own ideas, opinions (Lord, have mercy!), dreams, and destiny by the time you wrap your head around the idea of him not sleeping in footie pajamas anymore.

Today, I can relate to what Eve said after Cain was born far better than I could back in 1992.

"I have gotten and gained a man with the help of the Lord."
(Gen 4:1 Amplified)

Happy birthday, Ethan. I'm proud of you, and I love you very much. (Which is why I'm such a nag.) Keep your eyes on God, your trust in Him, and your ears tuned to the voice of His Holy Spirit, and your life will continue on the course of peace and prosperity He has planned for you!

  2. Awesome, Cheryl!
I think we need to have a new kind of group for mothers. Instead of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) we could have MOMs (Mothers of Men).
And we wouldn't even have to figure out childcare during our meetings!

  3. Sounds good to me!
Seriously, these guys are the next generation in a world that's gone overtly bonkers! My prayers are with you and all the MOMS out there who want God's best for their men. (I think this is the first time that I've admitted my guys are now men).
